decided to do a quick bunny photo shoot at the ‘elliott smith’ figure 8 wall yesterday. this is probably one of my favorite albums, easily in the top 20.

i remember seeing elliott smith in austin at la zona rosa right before figure 8 was released. he had just put together a new band and i think it was their first show playing a lot of new material together. they sounded really great, just like the record but louder and fuller.  then about a year later i saw the last show of the figure 8 tour at metro in chicago. i was really bummed because it was clear that the road had worn down on elliott and he looked strung out.  they still played/sounded great but it was pretty obvious that he was just going through the motions. i guess there really isn’t a point to this story other than that, like many others, his death really affected me in a pretty big way. it’s nice to be able to drive by this wall on occasion and be reminded of what his music meant to me…
